Welcome to Sköll & Hati

Sköll & Hati was born from a simple conviction:

Our dogs and cats deserve better than products chosen solely for their marketing or their price.

Passionate about animals since I was a child, I have spent years learning, comparing, testing, and trying to understand what truly lies behind food compositions, everyday accessories, and the many products that are offered to us.

This approach does not come from curiosity alone. It was built over the course of my history with my own animals, their needs, their differences, and sometimes the difficulties we have encountered together.

Over time, one observation became clear: faced with a multitude of offers, commercial arguments, and sometimes contradictory information, it is not always easy to know what truly meets our companions' needs.

It is from this reflection, but also from all these years lived by their side, that Sköll & Hati was born.

A project that today brings together three things that are particularly close to my heart: understanding, sharing, and selecting with discernment.

A shop designed for animals… and their humans

At Sköll & Hati, the goal is not to offer the largest catalog possible.

Quite the opposite.

I prefer to select products that have a real reason to be offered and to be able to explain their value, rather than multiplying references simply to fill a shop.

Food, treats, chews, accessories, walking gear, or daily enrichment: every selection is guided by quality, utility, and adaptation to the animal’s needs.

Because a popular, prettily presented, or widely sold product is not necessarily the one that will suit your companion.

And above all, because there is no such thing as a “typical” dog or cat.

Every animal has its own history, age, morphology, temperament, lifestyle, preferences, and sometimes its own sensitivities.

Understanding the animal must therefore always come before choosing the product.

A story of passion… and family

Behind Sköll & Hati is a story with animals that began long before the creation of this shop.

A story made of encounters, life companions, rescues, wonderful moments, but also separations that inevitably leave their mark.

The first were Princesse and Zorro, my parents' two Border Collies.

Princesse was stolen, and we never found her again. A few weeks later, Zorro left us in turn, as if he had never managed to overcome her absence.

Then came Carie, my first cat, who accompanied me for many years, until the age of 16.

And then there was Orlane.

My very first Beauceron.

My faithful friend, my road companion, my little girl, my shadow.

Some animals pass through our lives. Others become a true part of them. Orlane was one of those.

Her passing devastated me deeply. Those who have already built such a strong relationship with their dog will likely understand this pain without needing much explanation.

For years, I wanted to get another dog. The desire was there, but I simply couldn't bring myself to take the leap.

The space left by Orlane was immense.

Cats, for their part, continued to accompany our story.

There was Kalie, my beloved little cat who followed me everywhere like a little dog and who left us far too soon. Black, then Eclyspe and Gaya, two sisters taken in during a rescue when they were only two weeks old and whom we had to look after from their very first days.

There was also Domino, who stayed with us for a while before joining a new family, then Lilith, my partner's old companion, who left us at the age of 16.

Some stayed with us for almost a lifetime. Others only traveled a part of the way by our side.

But each one had their own character, their own story, and their own place.

When nutrition becomes a real issue

My story with Orlane is also the origin of my interest in a subject that now occupies an important place at Sköll & Hati: nutrition and the composition of what we feed our animals.

Orlane suffered from a food allergy.

The first symptoms manifested as eczema. Over time, the condition of her skin worsened considerably, eventually showing particularly significant lesions.

The culprits: wheat and chicken.

This experience forced me to look at what was in her bowl differently and to truly take an interest in the ingredients present in her food.

And Orlane was, unfortunately, not an isolated case.

Over the years, Kalie and Lilith also showed skin reactions linked to their diet.

Later, Freya and Valkyre in turn manifested sensitivities, this time mainly digestive, with episodes of diarrhea in particular.

The animals were different. The symptoms were as well.

But these successive experiences taught me one essential thing: nutrition can have very concrete consequences on an animal's daily life, and the same ingredient will not necessarily be tolerated the same way by everyone.

Above all, they pushed me to look further.

To read the compositions. To try to understand the role of different ingredients. To compare foods. To look at what is really inside a product rather than stopping at what is written in big letters on the front of the package.

It is an approach that still guides me today and explains why reading and understanding compositions occupies such an important place in the world of Sköll & Hati.

A new chapter

After all those years without managing to get another dog, Freya came into my life.

A Dalmatian-Griffon mix, my little pup had also started her own life with difficulty.

Abandoned when she was only a month old, she was taken in by the APA. That is where I met her and adopted her when she was four months old.

Freya did not come to replace Orlane.

One animal never replaces another.

She simply managed to open a door that I had long thought I would never be able to walk through again and allowed me to write a new story with a dog.

Then came Valkyre.

My Beauceron.

Welcoming a Beauceron again naturally had a special resonance after Orlane. But Valkyre is not Orlane, and I never expected her to be.

She has her own character, her qualities, her difficulties, her sensitivity, and that personality all her own that makes Vava… Vava.

With her, the Beauceron simply returned to my life with a new face and a whole new story to build.

Today, Freya and Valkyre share our daily lives with Odin and Loki, our two cats.

And in the middle of all this little world, there are also my children, who are growing up surrounded by animals and sharing in the care, the learning, the moments of complicity, and the little adventures of daily life.

In our home, animals are not just present in the house.

They are part of the family.

Understand to choose better

All these experiences have inevitably shaped the philosophy of Sköll & Hati.

Because offering products is not enough, information and education occupy an essential place in this project.

Through the articles, tips, and various contents on the site, the goal is to give owners the keys to better understand their animals and make their own choices with full knowledge of the facts.

We address in particular:

  • the composition of foods and reading labels;
  • the nutritional needs of dogs and cats;
  • treats, chewing, and enrichment;
  • behavior and communication;
  • training;
  • walking tools and choosing accessories;
  • and, more broadly, the daily needs and well-being of our companions.

The goal is not simply to tell you what to choose.

It is also to enable you to understand why you are choosing it.

Because advice only truly makes sense when it takes into account the individual animal it is for.

Our commitments

🐾 A thoughtful selection

Prioritizing references that have a real utility rather than multiplying products to fill a catalog.

🐾 Quality over marketing

Looking at what a product contains, what it provides, and which animal it might suit rather than stopping at the promises on its packaging.

🐾 Accessible and transparent information

Explaining, deciphering, and sharing so that everyone can make their own informed choices.

🐾 Respect for each animal's individuality

Because two dogs or two cats can have totally different needs, sensitivities, and reactions.

🐾 Continuing to learn

Observing, training, researching, cross-referencing information, and accepting the need to evolve one's knowledge are an integral part of the Sköll & Hati approach.

🐾 An independent and passionate business

Maintaining the spirit with which this project was created: a family adventure born above all from a life spent by the side of animals.

Welcome to the pack

Today, Freya, Valkyre, Odin, and Loki are naturally the companions you will regularly find in the world of Sköll & Hati.

But behind them lies also a small piece of Princesse, Zorro, Carie, Orlane, Kalie, Black, Eclyspe, Gaya, Domino, and Lilith.

All of them, in their own way, have participated in building my way of seeing, understanding, and accompanying animals.

And that is ultimately what I wish to convey through Sköll & Hati.

Whether you are here to decipher the composition of your companion's kibble, better understand their behavior, choose equipment, discover a product, or simply look for information to improve their daily life, you are welcome in the pack.

Our ambition is simple:

to help you understand better in order to choose better, always with respect for the animal.

Sköll & Hati — The shop dedicated to your pack.
